The GAFA (Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon) have become part of our lives. As a person, citizen and economic actor, we can’t ignore them any longer. After the rapid growth of the Internet, they ushered in a tremendous democratization of information, while at the same time considerably weakening the information quality. On a daily basis, we’re all confronted with infobesity.

Publishers have adapted their print offer and enlarged their digital offer, while developing the omnichannel on the basis of content with journalistic quality. The battle is raging, but collaboration is also growing. The public is getting tired of social networks, and journalism is gradually resuming its place.

Version 4.0 of the old David and Goliath story? But then, who is really David, and who is really Goliath? What are their compared benefits, their points of divergence and their points of convergence? In what way is the role of media brands essential for democracies?

Xavier Bouckaert

The speaker, Xavier Bouckaert, is a media personality on the Belgian and European stages (as Chairman of the European Magazine Media Association, and Chairman of WeMedia), and CEO of the Roularta Media Group. He will inspire us with his experience and broad vision, and hopes for a sector that is already reinventing itself and that still has surprises in store.
